Lane Closures on I-55 and Evening Ramp Work on Route 370 Impacting Sunday Travel

St. Louis Traffic and Commute Update: Sunday, March 8

St. Louis commuters can expect a generally productive travel day this Sunday, March 8, 2026, though long-term infrastructure improvements continue to shape traffic patterns across the metropolitan area. While several overnight projects in Jefferson County wrapped up early this morning, significant work zones remain active on Interstate 55 and localized thoroughfares like Grand Boulevard. Motorists are advised to plan for lane restrictions and prepare for a series of major ramp closures scheduled to begin this evening.

Major Interstate Restrictions and Bridge Work

The rehabilitation of Interstate 55 remains the most impactful project for regional travel. Efforts to resurface the roadway and repair 14 bridges between I-44 and Lindbergh Boulevard are in full swing. In the city, drivers will encounter a single southbound lane closure from the I-44 interchange to north of Bates Street, widening to two lanes closed near Weber Road. Northbound traffic is similarly restricted from Reavis Barracks to Virginia Avenue. These zones are strictly enforced with reduced speed limits for worker safety.

Other notable highway impacts include:

  • I-270: The westbound exit and on-ramps at Riverview Drive remain closed. This long-term closure requires drivers to detour via Bellefontaine Road or other parallel routes.
  • I-55 (Jefferson County): Near the McNutt underpass, traffic has been shifted to the outside lanes. While access to interstate ramps remains open, the narrowed lanes may cause brief congestion during peak afternoon travel.
  • I-64: In St. Charles County, the North Outer Road (Technology Drive) bridge over Dardenne Creek remains closed for replacement, with detours established between Route K and Winghaven.

Grand Boulevard and Local Connectivity

Within the city limits, construction of the Brickline Greenway north connector is active. Commuters traveling through the Grand Center neighborhood should watch for intermittent lane shifts on Grand Boulevard between Fairground Park and Page Avenue. Sidewalk closures are also in effect, so pedestrians and cyclists should utilize designated crossings. Additionally, upgrades at Kiener Plaza in Downtown St. Louis may result in temporary curb-lane restrictions near the park as modernization of lighting and drainage continues.

Evening and Overnight Ramp Closures

Starting tonight, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will initiate several ramp closures in the St. Louis County and St. Charles County areas. Drivers planning to travel after 7:00 p.m. should be aware of the following:

  • Route 370 at Route 94: Beginning at 7:00 p.m., up to two left-turn lanes will be closed for motorists moving from southbound Route 94 to eastbound Route 370.
  • Route 370 Mainline: Also at 7:00 p.m., two lanes will be closed in both directions between Route 141 and the Route 94 overpass.
  • Route 141 and Route 370: At 10:00 p.m., crews will close the ramps from both northbound and southbound Route 141 to westbound Route 370. The exit ramp from westbound Route 370 to Route 141 will also be closed during this window.
  • Discovery Bridge: Lane shifts continue across the Missouri River on Route 370, though two lanes of traffic are being maintained in each direction around the clock.

Public Transit and Metro Transit Status

Metro Transit is currently operating on a standard Sunday schedule for both MetroLink and MetroBus services. While no major delays are reported today, passengers are reminded that minor schedule changes for 26 MetroBus routes are set to take effect on March 16. Riders are encouraged to utilize the Transit app to monitor their specific lines for real-time arrival data and localized stop detours caused by the aforementioned roadwork on Grand Boulevard.
