Three hospitalized after two-story residential fire in St. Louis’ Shaw neighborhood on Thursday night

Fire reported on Magnolia Place; rescue effort sends one patient to hospital in critical condition
Three adults were taken to area hospitals Thursday night after a residential fire in St. Louis’ Shaw neighborhood, a densely populated area of south St. Louis known for its mix of single-family homes and multifamily buildings.
The fire was reported at about 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, 2026, in the 4000 block of Magnolia Place. City firefighters responded and conducted a rescue operation inside the two-story dwelling, removing one occupant from the structure.
Injuries and transport
Fire officials reported three hospital transports from the scene:
- One person rescued from inside the building and transported in critical condition.
- A second adult transported in serious condition.
- A third adult transported as a precaution.
Authorities did not release the patients’ names, ages, or the nature of their injuries as of Friday. No fatalities were reported in the initial incident information released Thursday night.
Fireground response and scene actions
Fire crews deployed two hose lines and reported the fire had been knocked down as operations shifted to overhaul and ventilation—steps that involve searching for hidden fire, removing smoke and heat, and reducing the risk of rekindling. The response also included a request for fire investigators and the city’s building division to respond to the scene, indicating an investigation into origin and cause and an assessment of structural safety.
Fire crews reported one occupant was rescued from the dwelling and transported urgently in critical condition, with two additional adults transported.
What remains unknown
As of Friday, officials had not announced a cause of the fire, the area of origin within the house, or whether smoke alarms were present and functioning. It was also not immediately clear how many residents were displaced or the extent of damage to the structure.
Building-division involvement can include determinations about whether a structure is safe to re-enter, whether utilities should remain shut off, and whether an emergency stabilization or condemnation process is needed. Those determinations typically follow on-site inspections after suppression activities are complete.
Public safety context
In residential fires that result in serious injury, investigators commonly evaluate ignition sources, electrical systems, heating equipment, and patterns of fire spread. Officials also review whether occupants had safe egress and how quickly conditions changed once the fire took hold.
The investigation into Thursday’s Shaw neighborhood fire is expected to continue as fire officials document the scene and work to determine how the blaze started.
