A pair of deals adds two sites to a long-running local operator’s metro-area network

Telle Tire & Auto Service is expanding its St. Louis-area footprint through the acquisition of an established Kirkwood repair business and the purchase of a Creve Coeur automotive facility that is being renovated for a branded opening.

The company’s Kirkwood expansion comes through the acquisition of Rasch Automotive Service Center, an eight-bay shop that has operated in the suburb since 1944. The business had remained under family operation, and Telle Tire has said the location will transition over time to the Telle Tire brand. The company also plans to broaden the tire assortment offered at the Kirkwood site.

Separately, Telle Tire has purchased the real estate for a six-bay facility in Creve Coeur. The company has said the site is undergoing renovations and equipment installation ahead of a planned opening as a Telle Tire location on Jan. 2, 2024. With those moves, the two properties were described as the company’s 24th and 25th locations.

What the expansion signals in the St. Louis auto-service market

Retail automotive service expansion in mature metro areas often takes two forms: buying existing operators with established customer bases, and converting or upgrading facilities for faster market entry. In Kirkwood, the acquisition places Telle Tire inside a long-standing neighborhood service operation, while the Creve Coeur facility reflects a real-estate-led approach that allows the company to outfit a site to its current equipment and workflow standards.

  • Acquisition strategy: Buying a decades-old shop can preserve continuity for customers while shifting branding and product mix gradually.

  • Facility investment: Renovations and new equipment at the Creve Coeur site indicate a buildout designed to match the company’s current service model.

  • Geographic positioning: Kirkwood and Creve Coeur place the added capacity in central St. Louis County communities with established commuter and residential traffic patterns.

Telle Tire said it intends to continue service traditions at the Kirkwood shop as the location transitions to its brand.

Next milestones

The Kirkwood location is expected to operate through a transition period as branding and product offerings evolve. The Creve Coeur site is scheduled to open as a Telle Tire store on Jan. 2, 2024, following completion of renovations and equipment installation.

Collectively, the two additions expand Telle Tire’s metro-area network by pairing an established service center acquisition with a renovated facility intended to open under the company’s name.
