Large-scale distribution set for Jan. 19 at Urban League headquarters

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and the St. Louis Area Foodbank are scheduled to hold a drive-thru food distribution on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, with organizers expecting to serve about 3,000 families. The event is planned for noon to 3 p.m. at the Urban League’s Regional Headquarters, 1408 N. Kingshighway Blvd., and will operate as a drive-thru only distribution.

Organizers have said food and household items will be available while supplies last, with listed items including groceries, toiletries, masks and personal protective equipment. The format is intended to move vehicles through multiple stations where volunteers load supplies into trunks, allowing a high volume of households to be served over a limited timeframe.

Partners and sponsors supporting the distribution

The MLK Day giveaway is being staged in partnership with the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Sponsors and partners publicly associated with the event include Schnucks, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ameren Missouri (Ameren Corporation), the Missouri Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. State Celebration Commission, and U.S. Bank. The scale of the distribution reflects a broader pattern of large, drive-thru events used across the region to address acute food needs.

How the Urban League’s MLK Day distribution fits a longer-running effort

In prior years, the Urban League’s MLK Day distributions have provided food and essential items to thousands of households in a single day. Past distributions have included eggs, canned goods, meat, dairy items and toiletries. In one recent MLK Day partnership effort, organizers reported serving more than 3,500 families during a three-hour event, supported by volunteer teams that included community members and additional logistical support.

What attendees should know

  • Date and time: Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Location: Urban League Regional Headquarters, 1408 N. Kingshighway Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63113

  • Format: Drive-thru only; distribution continues while supplies last

The MLK Day food distribution has become one of the region’s recurring large-scale efforts aimed at meeting immediate needs for groceries and essential items, while also reflecting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s emphasis on confronting poverty alongside civil rights.

Organizers have not released a public inventory list for the full quantity of food and household items planned for distribution. Families planning to attend are expected to arrive prepared for a drive-thru process and potential traffic congestion consistent with prior large-scale giveaways.
