State of Emergency and Administrative Operations

Mayor Cara Spencer has declared a formal State of Emergency for the City of St. Louis, which remains active following the recent major winter storm and ongoing extreme cold. In coordination with the Winter Weather Unified Command, the city is prioritizing snow removal and public safety. For Tuesday, January 27, 2026, all non-essential city offices and administrative buildings will observe a delayed start, opening to the public at 11:00 AM. Residents are encouraged to use online service portals where possible to minimize travel during the morning hours.

Trash and Refuse Collection Reschedule

The Department of Public Safety’s Street Division has redirected refuse drivers to snow call duty to assist with plowing and treating primary and residential routes. Consequently, the trash collection schedule has been adjusted as follows:

  • Collections originally scheduled for Monday, January 26, are being completed today, Tuesday, January 27.
  • Collections originally scheduled for today, Tuesday, January 27, are now postponed until Wednesday, January 28.
  • Regularly scheduled collections are expected to resume on Thursday, January 29, weather permitting.

Municipal Court and Judicial Services

All St. Louis Municipal Court sessions scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, have been canceled due to the severe weather event. No warrants or summons will be issued for missed appearances today. All cases will be automatically continued to a future date; litigants should check CaseNet in approximately three days for updated hearing information. The Clerk’s office and cashier windows will open at 11:00 AM.

Road Construction and Traffic Alerts

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced significant lane closures for Tuesday, January 27. On Interstate 44 within the City of St. Louis, two eastbound lanes will be closed between Hampton Avenue and Grand Boulevard from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for emergency maintenance. Motorists should anticipate heavy delays or seek alternate routes. Additionally, various ramps on I-55, including the Lafayette/Truman and Germania interchanges, remain closed as part of long-term bridge and surface projects.

Health Advisory: Respiratory Surge and Cold Safety

The City of St. Louis Department of Health has issued a high-level advisory regarding a significant surge in seasonal influenza and RSV cases. Health officials report that flu activity is currently double the rate seen in previous years. Residents are urged to obtain vaccinations and practice respiratory hygiene. Additionally, the city has activated 600 emergency shelter beds to protect vulnerable populations from life-threatening low temperatures. Anyone in need of warmth or experiencing signs of hypothermia is encouraged to contact city social services immediately.

The Planned Industrial Expansion Authority and the Enhanced Enterprise Zone Commission meetings previously scheduled for this afternoon have been canceled.
