Significant Lane Closures on I-55 and Route 370 Impact Saturday Travel

Weekend Traffic Outlook for St. Louis
Commuters and weekend travelers in the St. Louis metropolitan area should prepare for several significant roadway restrictions this Saturday, February 21, 2026. Major infrastructure projects on Interstate 55 and Interstate 270 continue to disrupt standard traffic patterns, while specific maintenance work in St. Charles County will create localized delays throughout the day.
Major Artery Alerts: I-55 and I-270
Interstate 55 remains the most impacted corridor in the city. Extensive bridge rehabilitation and resurfacing work have resulted in several long-term lane closures that remain in effect today:
- I-55 Southbound: One lane is closed from the I-44 interchange to north of Bates Street. Additionally, two southbound lanes are closed from north of Bates Street to north of Weber Road.
- I-55 Northbound: One lane is restricted from north of Reavis Barracks Road to north of Bayless Avenue, with two lanes closed from north of Bayless to Virginia Avenue.
- Ramp Closure: The ramp from southbound I-55 to Germania Avenue remains closed as part of ongoing pavement improvements.
On the northern edge of the county, work continues on the Chain of Rocks Bridge project. Drivers should note that the westbound I-270 exit ramp to Riverview Drive and the on-ramp from Riverview Drive to westbound I-270 are both closed. These closures are necessary as crews coordinate with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the bridge's expansion.
St. Charles County Maintenance
Specific work scheduled for Saturday will impact Route 370 and Route 94. Drivers in these areas should expect the following:
- Route 370 Westbound: One lane will be closed from the Route 141 on-ramp to the overpass at Route 94 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Route 370 Eastbound: A single lane closure is expected between Mel Wetter Parkway and Route 141 until 6:00 p.m.
- Route 94: One left turn lane is closed from southbound Route 94 to eastbound Route 370. Additionally, one lane on the ramp to eastbound Route 370 will be closed throughout the afternoon and evening.
Public Transport and Local Events
Metro Transit reports that all services, including MetroLink and MetroBus, are operating on normal schedules. However, officials advise riders to allow extra time for their commutes due to residual snow accumulation and road conditions from earlier in the week. Some bus routes may still be utilizing designated snow routes as cleanup continues.
Increased traffic is also anticipated in the Downtown and Union Station areas today. Local events such as the "Magic at the Link" at Union Station and Black History Month programs at the St. Louis Public Library are expected to draw crowds, potentially slowing traffic on 14th Street and Olive Street through the late morning.
