Severe Weather Awareness Week: Flood Safety

Friday, March 6, marks the final day of Severe Weather Awareness Week in St. Louis. The focus for today is Flood Safety. Following a year marked by significant weather events, the City of St. Louis Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) reminds residents to review their emergency plans. While daytime temperatures are expected to reach an unseasonably warm high of 75 degrees, a cold front approaching from the west brings a 15% risk of severe winds and potential thunderstorms late Friday evening. Citizens should ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as a NOAA weather radio or localized emergency apps.

Public Health Advisory: Influenza Activity

The City of St. Louis Department of Health has issued a continuing health advisory as the respiratory virus season remains at a high level. Current surveillance data indicates a significant surge in Influenza B cases across the metropolitan area. Health officials urge residents to remain vigilant by practicing frequent handwashing and staying home if they develop a fever. Hospital emergency department visits for influenza-like illnesses continue to trend above the seasonal average. Residents are encouraged to seek vaccination if they have not already done so to reduce the severity of potential infections.

MoDOT Construction and Road Closures

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced significant nightly work on the Route 370 bridge over the Missouri River (Discovery Bridge) for Friday, March 6. Drivers should be aware of the following impacts:

  • Route 370 Bridge: Starting at 7:00 p.m. Friday, crews will work nightly to complete the median barrier and shift westbound lanes.
  • Ramp Closures: From 10:00 p.m. Friday until 5:30 a.m. Saturday, both ramps at Route 141 to westbound Route 370, as well as the exit ramp from westbound Route 370 to Route 141, will be closed.

Ongoing construction on Interstate 55 also continues to limit lanes from I-44 to north of Bates. Commuters are advised to exercise caution and plan for potential delays in these work zones.
