Public Safety and Infrastructure Take Center Stage in St. Louis Government Sessions

St. Louis city officials and community leaders are navigating a packed schedule of government meetings and committee sessions today, Thursday, February 12, 2026. While some administrative offices are closed for the regional holiday, several key committees are moving forward with critical legislative and infrastructure priorities.

Public Safety Committee to Review New Legislation

The most anticipated session of the day is the meeting of the Board of Aldermen’s Public Safety Committee, scheduled for 2:00 PM at City Hall. The committee is set to convene in the Kennedy Hearing Room (Room 208) to discuss a variety of municipal matters, including Board Bills 145 and 146. These bills represent the latest efforts by the city to address community safety and regulatory oversight. Residents and stakeholders are expected to monitor the session as the committee evaluates the impact of these proposed ordinances on local neighborhoods.

Infrastructure and Economic Development Meetings

The morning kicked off with several sessions focused on the city's economic and physical landscape. The St. Louis Port Authority held its regular board meeting at 8:00 AM to discuss maritime commerce and riverfront development. Simultaneously, the Zoning Section conducted a Conditional Use Hearing to review business and residential applications, while the Excise Division held hearings regarding restaurant and bar licensing under small business criteria.

Additionally, a Special Selection Committee met at 9:30 AM to discuss the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the demolition and debris removal of vacant buildings. This meeting is particularly significant given the city's ongoing recovery efforts following severe weather events. Mayor Cara Spencer has recently emphasized the importance of clearing hazardous debris, with the city continuing to remove tornado debris from curbsides through the end of the month to ensure a comprehensive cleanup across affected wards.

Community Oversight and Holiday Closures

This evening, the Citizens’ Advisory Committee for Capital Expenditures (CACCE) will meet at 5:30 PM. This session allows for community oversight regarding how municipal funds are allocated for major infrastructure projects, ensuring transparency in the city’s long-term investment strategies and capital improvements.

In terms of administrative updates, the Board of Election Commissioners is closed today in observance of Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday. Regular operations for the board are expected to resume tomorrow. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) held its Grant Advisory Committee meeting at 11:00 AM to review funding opportunities for local initiatives designed to bolster economic growth.

Looking Ahead

Today’s meetings come as the city prepares for the final push of the 2025-2026 Legislative Session. With the "sine die" meeting approaching in April, the Board of Aldermen and various city commissions are working to finalize critical board bills and capital budget items before the scheduled spring break begins in late March.
