Public Notice: Winter Weather Advisory and Legislative Schedule
The City of St. Louis has released a series of official notices and public service announcements for Thursday, January 22, 2026. These updates cover critical weather safety, scheduled municipal meetings, and ongoing infrastructure projects affecting city residents.
Winter Weather and Health Advisory
The Department of Health and the City Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) have issued an extreme cold weather advisory as temperatures are forecasted to drop into the single digits. A Winter Storm Watch is also in effect for the region starting Friday night, January 23, with current forecasts predicting 4 to 6 inches of snow accumulation through Sunday. Residents are urged to take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
- Safety Measures: Cover all exposed skin when outdoors and dress in layers. High winds may result in wind chills reaching -10 to -15 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Vulnerable Populations: The city has activated emergency shelter protocols to provide warmth for those in need. Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, particularly the elderly and those without stable heating.
- Health Update: Health officials also noted that while influenza activity remains high across the city, reported cases have begun a slight seasonal decline according to the latest surveillance reports.
Board of Aldermen Committee Meetings
Two legislative committees are meeting today to conduct city business. Members of the public are invited to observe these proceedings as follows:
- Health and Human Development Committee: Convening at 9:00 a.m. this morning. This meeting is being held virtually via webinar to discuss the city's winter emergency response and seasonal health initiatives.
- Personnel and Administration Committee: Meeting at 11:00 a.m. in City Hall, Room 208. This session is scheduled to address municipal staffing and administrative protocols.
These committee sessions serve as a precursor to the next Full Board of Aldermen meeting, which is scheduled for Friday, January 23, at 10:00 a.m. in the Board Chambers at City Hall.
Infrastructure and Traffic Alerts
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) continues its multi-year rehabilitation of the I-55 corridor through the city. The following closures remain active for Thursday, January 22, and are expected to continue through early 2026:
- I-55 Lane Restrictions: Southbound traffic is reduced to one lane from I-44 to north of Bates, and two lanes from north of Bates to Weber.
- Ramp Closures: The Virginia Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-55 remains closed. Additionally, the ramps to and from Loughborough Avenue are currently unavailable to traffic.
- Winter Road Safety: Maintenance crews are preparing for the weekend storm; motorists are advised to clear vehicles of snow and ice and allow extra travel time.
Refuse Collection and Service Reminders
The City Refuse Division confirms that regular Thursday roll cart collection for trash and recycling is proceeding as scheduled. However, residents are reminded that seasonal yard waste collection is currently suspended for the winter months and will not resume until March 4, 2026. For emergency assistance or to report heating issues in residential units, residents should contact the Citizens' Service Bureau.
