Public Notice: Post-Mardi Gras Road Reopenings and Seasonal Health Alerts

Traffic and Street Access: Post-Mardi Gras Reopening
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) and the Department of Streets advise residents that the significant road closures in the Soulard and Downtown areas for the 2026 Mardi Gras Grand Parade are scheduled to conclude this morning. Most "Red Zone" streets, which were completely restricted to vehicular traffic, officially began reopening at 2:00 AM today, Sunday, February 15. Crews are currently finishing the removal of temporary barricades and street cleaning operations.
However, residents in the "Yellow Zone" of Soulard and LaSalle Park are reminded that parking restrictions remain in effect throughout the day. Only vehicles properly displaying a 2026 Yellow Zone Access and Parking (YZAP) pass are permitted to park in designated on-street legal spots. Enforcement officers will continue to ticket and tow unauthorized vehicles to ensure residential access remains clear following the festival.
Health Advisory: Significant Rise in Influenza Activity
The City of St. Louis Department of Health has issued an active health advisory regarding a spike in seasonal influenza cases across the metropolitan area. Recent surveillance data indicates that Influenza A is currently the dominant strain, with a notable increase in emergency department visits among adults aged 25 to 49. Health officials urge all residents to take the following precautions:
- Receive an annual flu vaccine if you have not already done so this season.
- Practice frequent handwashing and use alcohol-based sanitizers.
- Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or body aches.
- Consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces to limit transmission.
Public Service Announcement: Holiday Trash Schedule
The Department of Public Utilities reminds residents that City Hall and municipal offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 16, in observance of President’s Day. Consequently, the refuse and recycling collection schedule has been adjusted. Residents who typically have their roll-carts collected on Monday and Thursday will see their pickup shifted to Tuesday and Friday for this week only. Please ensure all carts are placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on your rescheduled day.
Tornado Recovery: Private Property Assistance Deadline
The Mayor’s Office and the City Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) are issuing a final reminder to residents impacted by the May 2025 tornado. The deadline to apply for Private Property Assistance is Saturday, February 28, 2026. This program provides aid for property stabilization, debris removal, and essential repairs. Eligible homeowners must submit their documentation through the official city portal or at the designated recovery center at City Hall before the end of the month.
Infrastructure Alert: Mississippi River Bridge Maintenance
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is beginning its 2026 bridge washing program for major river crossings. This week, intermittent lane closures may occur on the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge (I-70), the Poplar Street Bridge (I-55/64), and the Jefferson Barracks Bridge (I-255). Work is scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize traffic impact, but motorists are encouraged to plan for potential delays when crossing into Illinois.
