Morning Traffic Overview

Commuters in the St. Louis metropolitan area should prepare for a mix of standard peak-hour congestion and significant ongoing construction projects this Tuesday, March 10, 2026. While the major arteries are currently seeing steady flow, several long-term rehabilitation projects are entering critical phases this month, particularly on the I-55 and I-270 corridors. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, especially during the morning and evening rushes.

Major Construction and Lane Closures

The most significant impacts today are located on Interstate 55 and Interstate 270. MoDOT continues its extensive bridge and pavement rehabilitation program, which remains a primary source of delays for those traveling into the city from the south and west.

  • I-55 (St. Louis City): Resurfacing and bridge work between I-44 and Lindbergh are in full swing. Commuters will encounter one southbound lane closed from I-44 to north of Bates Street, and two southbound lanes closed from north of Bates to north of Weber Road. Northbound traffic is also restricted, with lanes narrowed and shifted from Reavis Barracks to Virginia Avenue.
  • I-270 (West County): The bridge replacement project at Conway Road and Ladue Road is active. Expect narrowed lanes and traffic shifts between the I-64 interchange and Ladue. Importantly, MoDOT has scheduled overnight lane closures on northbound I-270 near I-64 for tonight, Tuesday, March 10, to facilitate bridge deck work.
  • I-270 (North County): Work continues at the Riverview Drive interchange as part of the Chain of Rocks Bridge replacement. Expect narrowed lanes and ramp shifts in this area.

Local Route and Regional Alerts

Beyond the interstates, several state routes are seeing increased activity this week. On Route 366 (Watson Road), crews are updating sidewalks and pedestrian crossings between Geyer Road and the St. Louis city limits. In South County, Route 30 (Gravois) is undergoing signal and lighting updates that may cause intermittent lane restrictions throughout the day. Additionally, pavement repairs are underway on I-44 between Route 109 and Route 141.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, motorists using I-55/I-70 in St. Clair County (Illinois) should be aware that westbound lanes will be reduced to two lanes between Illinois 203 and Exchange Avenue starting at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 11, for essential bridge maintenance.

Public Transit Updates

Metro Transit has announced that minor schedule adjustments for 26 MetroBus routes in Missouri will go into effect next Monday, March 16. While today's service remains on standard schedules, riders are encouraged to review the upcoming quarterly changes to ensure their transit connections remain seamless. MetroLink service is operating on its normal schedule today with no reported delays.
