Overnight I-70 Shutdown and Daylight Lane Reductions Impact St. Louis Commuters This Wednesday

Major Overnight Closure at the I-70/I-64 Interchange
Commuters heading through St. Charles County tonight should prepare for significant disruptions. Starting at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close all westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the I-64/U.S. Route 61 interchange. This closure is necessary for crews to safely install bridge girders as part of the ongoing Improve I-70 expansion project. The lanes are expected to remain closed until 5:00 a.m. Thursday. Signed detours will be in place, directing westbound traffic to exit at northbound Route 61, turn around at Pitman Avenue, and rejoin the interstate via the Luetkenhaus Boulevard ramps.
Daylight Delays on Route 21 and Route 370
Local travelers in St. Louis County should watch for several scheduled lane reductions during the day. Route 21 (Tesson Ferry Road) will have one northbound and one southbound lane closed between Green Park and Gravois from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for maintenance. Additionally, Route 370 will see a single eastbound lane closure between St. Louis Mills and I-270 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Late-night travelers on Route 370 should also prepare for two westbound lanes to be closed starting at 7:00 p.m. through the early morning hours.
Ongoing Construction and Ramp Closures
Long-term projects continue to impact traffic flow across the metro area, particularly on the I-55 corridor. Motorists are reminded of the following ongoing restrictions:
- I-55 Southbound: One lane remains closed from I-44 to north of Bates, with two lanes closed from north of Bates to north of Weber through early 2026.
- I-55 Northbound: Lane closures persist from north of Reavis Barracks to Virginia Avenue.
- Ramp Alerts: Several ramps along I-55 remain closed, including the Virginia Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-55 and the ramps at Loughborough and Germania.
- I-64: In St. Charles County, the North Outer Road/Technology Drive bridge remains closed as part of long-term infrastructure upgrades.
Public Transit and Weather Outlook
Metro Transit reports that MetroLink and MetroBus are currently operating on their regular weekday schedules. However, riders should allow extra time when traveling through areas with heavy road construction, as localized congestion can impact bus arrival times. With cooler temperatures arriving mid-week, commuters are encouraged to stay alert for potentially slick spots during early morning hours and to reduce speeds in all active work zones.
