Public Health & Weather Advisories

City officials have issued a high-level weather alert as extreme cold continues to impact the region. The Department of Health, led by Commissioner Victoria Anwuri, has activated Code Blue Shelter Protocols Level 4, effective through Friday, January 30. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and check on neighbors, especially older adults and those without stable heating. Emergency shelter beds are currently available 24/7 to accommodate those in need during these dangerously low temperatures.

Additionally, the Department of Health reports a significant rise in seasonal influenza cases. Health officials strongly recommend that all residents who have not yet received a flu shot do so immediately, noting that current infection rates are nearly double those of previous seasons. Protective measures against respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 and RSV, remain a top public health priority for the winter month.

Service Announcements: Refuse & Recycling

Mayor Cara Spencer has announced adjustments to the city’s refuse collection schedule following recent snow removal operations. Due to the deployment of snowplow teams and the ongoing state of emergency, the following service changes are in effect for Wednesday, January 28:

• Postponed Collections: Trash and recycling pickups originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, will be collected today, Wednesday, January 28.
• Resumption of Services: Regularly scheduled Thursday and Friday collections are expected to proceed as planned on January 29 and 30.

Official City Meetings & Public Hearings

The City of St. Louis has several official board and committee meetings scheduled for Wednesday, January 28. Citizens are encouraged to attend or monitor these sessions:

• Board of Aldermen: The Public Infrastructure and Utilities Committee will meet at 3:30 PM in the Kennedy Room (Room 208) to discuss Board Bills 99 and 130. Later, the Budget and Public Employees Committee will convene at 6:00 PM at the same location.
• Land Reutilization Authority (LRA): A regular board meeting is scheduled for 9:00 AM to review property maintenance and redevelopment agendas.
• Selection Committees: Two RFP selection committees will meet today: the Airport Business Services committee at 10:30 AM at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, and the Park Asset Reservations committee at 2:00 PM at the Division of Parks.
• Board of Adjustment: A public hearing regarding zoning appeals will be held at 1:30 PM.

Please note that the Program Review Committee (PRC) meeting for the St. Louis Development Corporation, originally scheduled for 1:30 PM, has been officially canceled.
