Following the full Board of Aldermen meeting on February 6, 2026, several legislative items have progressed to the next stage of the 2025-2026 legislative session. Board Bill 143, sponsored by Alderwoman Pamela Boyd, was introduced and received its first reading. This ordinance directs the Director of Streets to install speed humps in the 13th Ward to address local traffic calming and safety concerns. Residents should note that the Board is currently in a regular session cycle, with the next committee meetings, including Transportation and Commerce, scheduled to resume on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

Department of Health: Influenza and Respiratory Virus Advisory

The City of St. Louis Department of Health continues to monitor a significant increase in influenza activity throughout the region. As of February 2026, Influenza A remains the dominant strain, accounting for the vast majority of reported cases in the city. Health officials strongly urge all eligible residents who have not yet been vaccinated to receive their annual flu shot. Those most at risk include adults aged 65 and older, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic medical conditions such as asthma or heart disease. Public health clinics and local pharmacies continue to offer vaccinations to help mitigate the spread of respiratory illnesses during the peak winter season.

MoDOT Infrastructure and Roadway Advisories

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced several active work zones impacting travel in the St. Louis area this weekend. Motorists are advised to plan for delays or seek alternate routes for the following closures:

  • Conway Road: Conway Road is closed to all through traffic under I-64. This closure is necessary for interstate bridge removal and is scheduled to remain in effect until 5:00 AM on Monday, February 9.
  • Interstate 55: Significant rehabilitation work continues on I-55. Within St. Louis City, southbound lane closures remain in place from the I-44 interchange to north of Weber Road. Several ramps, including the Virginia Avenue on-ramp and the ramps at Loughborough and Germania, will remain closed through early 2026.
  • Interstate 270: Lane shifts are in effect near the I-64 interchange following the recent removal of barrier walls. Drivers should exercise caution as striping and lane configurations have been modified.

Public Service Announcement: Community Safety and Winter Events

The City Emergency Management Agency reminds residents that updated emergency shelter activation protocols are currently in effect to address severe cold-weather conditions. For those requiring housing assistance or warming centers, the Department of Human Services has established tiered response levels to ensure a scalable and predictable city-wide response. Additionally, the Soulard neighborhood will host the annual Run for Your Beads 5K and the Taste of Soulard events on Saturday, February 7. Residents and visitors should expect increased pedestrian activity and intermittent local street restrictions in the Soulard district throughout the afternoon.
