Department of Health Advisory: Influenza Activity

The St. Louis Department of Health has issued an active advisory regarding a significant increase in influenza activity across the city and the state of Missouri. Surveillance data indicates a spike in Influenza A cases, particularly among adults aged 25 to 49. Health officials are urging residents to take the following precautions:

  • Receive an annual flu vaccine if you have not already done so.
  • Practice frequent handwashing and respiratory etiquette.
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or body aches.

Those at higher risk for complications, including individuals over 65, young children, and those with chronic medical conditions, are encouraged to consult healthcare providers promptly upon the onset of symptoms.

Administrative and Infrastructure Updates

Employee Compensation Plan: The City of St. Louis has announced a revision to the implementation timeline for its new employee compensation and classification plan. Originally targeted for February 2026, the enactment date has been moved to March 2026. This adjustment allows for a final review to ensure pay parity across public safety departments following recent updates to police and fire department pay structures.

Ongoing Roadwork and Lane Closures: The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) continues work on I-55 within the city limits. Motorists should expect ongoing lane closures, specifically on southbound I-55 from I-44 to north of Bates. Additionally, the ramp from Virginia Avenue to southbound I-55 remains closed as part of long-term infrastructure improvements scheduled through early 2026. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes during peak hours.
