Today, Monday, January 19, 2026, the St. Louis community gathers to celebrate the life and enduring impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A wide range of commemorative events, from early morning breakfasts to community marches, are taking place throughout the metropolitan area, offering residents numerous ways to engage in service and reflection.

Morning Observances and Community Gatherings

  • 41st Annual Bayer YMCA MLK Commemorative Breakfast: This long-standing tradition begins early at 7:30 AM and runs until 9:30 AM. It serves as a cornerstone event for community leaders and residents to unite in the spirit of nonviolence and social change.
  • Mid-St. Louis County MLK March and Parade: Starting at 10:00 AM at Normandy High School, the community will march in solidarity. The celebration is scheduled to continue at 12:00 PM at Barack Obama Elementary School, featuring local speakers and youth-led presentations.
  • UMSL Holiday Observance: The University of Missouri-St. Louis hosts its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This year’s theme focuses on the transformative power of education in reforming the world.

Family Activities and Museum Exhibitions

  • 25th Annual MLK Celebration at SLCC-Florissant Valley: A formal tribute begins at 6:00 PM (with a reception at 5:00 PM) at the Terry M. Fischer Theatre. The event features keynote speaker Kimberly Norwood, who will address the theme of mentoring the dream with love and light.
