Major Weekend Closure on Conway Road and I-270 Lane Shifts Set for St. Louis This Friday

I-270 Northbound and Conway Road: Major Weekend Demolition Tonight
Commuters in West St. Louis County should prepare for significant traffic disruptions starting this evening, Friday, February 6, 2026. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that crews will begin the demolition of the bridge structure overhead as part of the ongoing Interstate 270 bridge replacement project. This work will require a total shutdown of a key local thoroughfare and additional lane restrictions on the interstate.
- Conway Road Closure: Starting at 9:00 p.m. tonight, Conway Road will be fully closed to all traffic beneath the I-270 overpass (near the I-64 interchange). This closure is necessary to safely remove the bridge structure. The road is expected to remain closed until 5:00 a.m. Monday, February 9.
- I-270 Lane Restrictions: In addition to the surface road closure, motorists on northbound I-270 should expect up to two lanes to be closed overnight between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. These closures will allow crews to move barrier walls and restripe the roadway for upcoming traffic shifts.
Ongoing I-55 Corridor Rehabilitation
The multi-year rehabilitation of the I-55 corridor continues to impact travel between St. Louis City and South County. As of today, commuters should account for the following long-term work zones:
- Southbound I-55: One lane remains closed from I-44 to north of Bates Street. South of Bates to north of Weber Road, two lanes are closed. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place through early 2026.
- Northbound I-55: Travelers will encounter a single-lane closure from north of Reavis Barracks Road to north of Bayless Avenue. Two lanes are closed from north of Bayless to Virginia Avenue.
- Ramp Closures: The Virginia Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-55 remains closed, along with the southbound exit and on-ramps at Loughborough Avenue. The ramp from Lafayette/Truman to southbound I-55 is also inaccessible.
Additional Roadworks and Public Transit
Drivers should also be mindful of ramp closures at the intersection of Route 67 (Lindbergh Boulevard) and Route D (Page Boulevard), where the loop ramps remain closed for safety and pavement improvements. In North County, the I-270 project near Riverview Drive continues to restrict access, with the westbound exit and on-ramps at Riverview currently closed as part of the Chain of Rocks Bridge replacement efforts.
Metro Transit Update: Metro Transit is operating on its standard weekday schedule. While there are no new emergency alerts for today, riders are reminded that the minor schedule adjustments implemented in December 2025 remain in effect for 37 MetroBus routes. Commuters are encouraged to use the Metro Transit app to track buses in real-time and allow extra time for connections during the evening rush hour.
