Major Lane Shifts and Nightly Work on Route 370

Commuters traveling between St. Louis and St. Charles counties should prepare for significant changes on the Route 370 Discovery Bridge. Starting tonight, Thursday, March 5, MoDOT crews will be working nightly from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. to complete the median barrier and transition westbound traffic onto the eastbound lanes of the bridge. This traffic switch is part of an ongoing bridge rehabilitation project. While two lanes will remain open in each direction across the bridge once the switch is complete, motorists should expect heavy congestion during the transition period tonight and tomorrow morning.

Ongoing I-55 Bridge Rehabilitation in South City

The multi-year I-55 bridge rehabilitation project continues to be a primary source of delays for South City and South County residents. Currently, one southbound lane is closed from I-44 to north of Bates, while two southbound lanes remain restricted from north of Bates to Weber Road. Northbound drivers are also facing lane reductions between Reavis Barracks and Virginia Avenue.

  • The ramp from Germania to northbound I-55 is closed through early 2026.
  • The Virginia on-ramp to southbound I-55 is currently inaccessible.
  • Ramp closures are also in effect for southbound I-55 at Loughborough and Lafayette/Truman.

St. Charles I-70/I-64 Interchange Congestion

In St. Charles County, the I-70 and I-64 interchange remains a high-stress zone following recent ramp shifts and lane reconfigurations. Reports from earlier this week indicate that many drivers are still adjusting to the new patterns, leading to abrupt lane changes and backups during peak rush hours. Commuters are advised to slow down and follow the new signage closely, as some temporary ramps have shifted with little advance notice as part of the statewide "Improve I-70" program.

North County and Other Key Arteries

In North St. Louis County, the I-270 interchange at Riverview Drive remains under heavy construction. The westbound exit ramp to Riverview and the on-ramp from Riverview to westbound I-270 are both closed. Additionally, on Route 67 (Lindbergh), loop ramps to Route D are closed, and lane restrictions are in place from Patterson to St. Ferdinand.

Metro Transit Updates

Metro Transit is operating on its standard schedule today, though riders should note that Metro Call-A-Ride is experiencing minor delays due to high regional demand. Metro representatives are also hosting "Community Connect" events today to discuss upcoming service changes scheduled for mid-March. Commuters are encouraged to allow extra travel time if their bus routes pass through active MoDOT work zones in South City.
