Islanders rally past Blues 4-3 in overtime at Enterprise Center after third-period three-goal comeback

Islanders erase three-goal deficit late, Barzal ends it in overtime
The St. Louis Blues let a three-goal advantage slip away Tuesday night, falling 4-3 in overtime to the New York Islanders at Enterprise Center in a game defined by a dramatic third-period swing and a decisive finish at 2:11 of the extra session.
Mathew Barzal scored the overtime winner and added two assists as the Islanders completed a comeback that flipped a 3-0 St. Louis lead into a road victory. Barzal’s winner came on a sequence in which he carried the puck into the zone, cut toward the middle, and beat goaltender Joel Hofer high to the glove side.
Fast start for St. Louis, then a turning point before the rally
St. Louis built its early cushion behind goals from Jimmy Snuggerud, Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Snuggerud also recorded two assists, continuing a stretch of multi-point games and driving much of the Blues’ early offense.
A pivotal moment arrived late in the second period when St. Louis appeared to score a fourth goal on a play finished by Robert Thomas. After a video review challenge for offside, the goal was waved off—keeping the margin at three and preserving a path back for the Islanders.
How New York climbed back into the game
New York got on the board with 2:10 remaining in the second period, then produced two third-period goals to force overtime. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the Islanders’ first, and the comeback was completed with goals from Bo Horvat and Calum Ritchie. Ritchie finished with a goal and an assist, while Pageau and Horvat each scored once.
The Islanders’ push was backed by sustained volume: Hofer faced 49 shots and made 45 saves. At the other end, Ilya Sorokin stopped 20 shots for New York.
Roster storylines: Schenn’s return and a debut on the blue line
The game also carried notable personnel angles. Brayden Schenn, acquired by New York at the trade deadline after spending nine seasons with St. Louis and serving as captain for the previous three, returned to Enterprise Center and received a first-period standing ovation during a video tribute. In addition, Blues defenseman Theo Lindstein recorded an assist in his NHL debut.
- Final: Islanders 4, Blues 3 (OT)
- Overtime goal: Barzal at 2:11
- Shots: New York 49, St. Louis 23
- Goaltending: Hofer 45 saves; Sorokin 20 saves
St. Louis carried a 3-0 lead into the final 22 minutes of regulation but left with one point after overtime.
The loss snapped St. Louis’ four-game winning streak. The Blues are scheduled to travel to Carolina next, while the Islanders continue their road stretch with a Friday matchup in Los Angeles.
