I-55 Lane Restrictions and Conway Road Closure Impact Saturday Commutes

Saturday Traffic Overview
Commuters and weekend travelers in the St. Louis area should prepare for significant lane restrictions and local road closures this Saturday, February 7, 2026. While overall traffic volume is lighter during the morning hours, ongoing bridge rehabilitation and interstate improvements are creating bottlenecks on major arteries, particularly in South City and near the I-270/I-64 interchange.
Major Construction on I-55
The multi-year rehabilitation of the I-55 corridor continues to be the most significant impact for drivers. On southbound I-55, one lane is closed from the I-44 interchange down to north of Bates Street. Further south, the congestion intensifies as the highway is reduced to just a single lane from north of Bates to north of Weber Road. These restrictions are part of the ongoing effort to resurface and repair 14 bridges along this stretch, which is slated to continue through the early part of this year.
Additionally, several key ramps remain inaccessible. The Virginia on-ramp to southbound I-55, the Lafayette/Truman on-ramp to southbound I-55, and both the northbound and southbound ramps at Germania are closed. Motorists are advised to utilize Broadway or Gravois as alternate routes to bypass the heavy South City construction zones.
I-270 and Conway Road Impacts
Drivers in St. Louis County should be aware of a full closure on Conway Road. As of 9:00 p.m. last night, crews closed Conway Road where it passes under I-64. This closure is necessary for the removal of the interstate bridge overhead and will remain in effect until 5:00 a.m. Monday morning. While I-64 remains open, the surrounding local traffic near the I-270 interchange may see increased delays due to detours.
On I-270 itself, crews successfully shifted the northbound lanes near I-64 early this morning. While all lanes have reopened, the new traffic pattern may cause initial confusion and slight braking at the merge points. Motorists are urged to pay close attention to new striping and barrier wall placements in this area.
Public Transit and Safety Reminders
Metro Transit is operating on a regular weekend schedule; however, riders should stay alert for minor delays on bus routes affected by the I-55 ramp closures. With temperatures remaining low this morning, MoDOT reminds drivers to watch for slick spots on elevated surfaces and bridges. Please maintain a safe following distance and observe posted speed limits in all active work zones to ensure the safety of highway crews.
