Heavy Downtown Delays Expected for Zach Bryan and Arch Madness

Event Alert: Downtown Gridlock Expected
St. Louis drivers should prepare for significant congestion in the downtown core today, Saturday, March 7, 2026. A combination of major sporting events and high-profile concerts is expected to saturate city streets starting in the early afternoon and lasting through late tonight. The Missouri Valley Conference "Arch Madness" tournament continues its run at the Enterprise Center, bringing thousands of basketball fans to the area. Simultaneously, the Dome at America's Center is hosting country sensation Zach Bryan for his "With Heaven On Tour" launch, which is anticipated to be a sell-out event.
Commuters and visitors should expect heavy traffic on I-64/US-40 and I-44 approaching the downtown exits. Surface streets near Washington Avenue, Broadway, and Clark Avenue will likely see gridlock between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. If you are heading to the Stifel Theatre for the October London concert, allow at least an extra 45 minutes for travel and parking.
Highway Work Zones and Saturday Closures
MoDOT has several active construction projects that will impact weekend travel. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert for narrowed lanes and shifted traffic patterns in the following areas:
- I-55 South City/County: The long-term bridge rehabilitation project between I-44 and Lindbergh Boulevard continues. Expect lane restrictions and reduced speeds. Crucially, MoDOT will close the entrance ramp from Route A to northbound I-55 in Jefferson County starting at 9:00 p.m. tonight. This closure, along with a single-lane restriction on northbound I-55 between Route A and Central Avenue, will remain in place until 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
- Route 370 Discovery Bridge: Crews are maintaining lane shifts near the bridge over the Missouri River. Traffic is currently restricted to two lanes in each direction around the clock as part of a multi-year median and barrier project.
- I-270 Chain of Rocks: Work on the new bridge over the Mississippi River is ongoing. While major closures are not scheduled for today, drivers should be prepared for shifted lanes and construction vehicles near the Riverview Boulevard interchange.
- I-70 Corridor: Be advised that prep work for the Route Z bridge demolition in Wentzville is underway, with a full closure of Route Z under I-70 scheduled to begin late Sunday night/Monday morning.
Public Transit and Weekend Service
Metro Transit is operating on its standard Saturday schedule. However, for those using the system to avoid downtown parking fees, please note that while MetroLink service is currently unaffected, Metro Transit has announced that its spring quarterly service change will take effect on March 16. This will involve minor schedule adjustments for 26 Missouri MetroBus routes to improve on-time performance. For today's commute, the Gateway Guide and real-time transit apps remain the best resources for monitoring any unexpected delays or localized detours due to the high volume of event traffic.
