Evening Ramp Closures on Poplar Street Bridge and Major I-70 Detours in St. Charles Today

Overview for Thursday, February 12, 2026
St. Louis area commuters should prepare for a relatively clear morning commute, but significant disruptions are scheduled to begin this evening. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced several high-impact closures affecting major arteries, specifically for those traveling from Illinois into the city and motorists in the St. Charles County area. If you are planning an evening trip or working a late shift, reviewing the detour routes now will save considerable time later tonight.
Major Evening Closures: Poplar Street Bridge
Starting at 7:30 p.m. tonight, crews will begin pavement repairs on the bridge over the Mississippi River. This will result in several critical ramp closures that will remain in effect until 5:30 a.m. Friday morning. Notable closures include:
- The ramp from westbound I-64 onto westbound I-44/southbound I-55 (Exit 40B).
- The ramp from westbound I-64 to Walnut Street.
- The ramp from Spruce Street to westbound I-44 and southbound I-55.
- One right lane of westbound I-44/southbound I-55 will also be restricted from Washington Avenue to Park Avenue.
Commuters heading into the city from Illinois can detour by heading north on eastbound I-44 to Washington Avenue (Exit 292), using the U-turn ramp, and then continuing southbound on I-55.
Full Stoppage on Eastbound I-70 in Wentzville
In St. Charles County, the "Improve I-70" project reaches a critical milestone tonight. Starting at 9:00 p.m., all eastbound lanes of I-70 will be closed at the I-70/I-64/U.S. 61 interchange. Crews will be using large cranes to set bridge girders, requiring a total stoppage of traffic for safety. This closure is expected to last until 5:00 a.m. Friday. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to the I-64 exit ramp and then redirected back onto I-70 via the left exit ramp. Expect significant congestion in the Wentzville area during these hours.
Ongoing Construction and Lane Restrictions
Beyond tonight's specific repairs, several long-term projects continue to impact daily travel times:
- I-55 Corridor: In St. Louis City, southbound I-55 remains restricted to one or two lanes from I-44 south to Weber Road. Many ramps, including those at Virginia Avenue, Loughborough, and Germania, remain closed through early 2026.
- I-270 North County: The westbound exit and on-ramps at Riverview Drive remain closed as part of the ongoing interchange reconstruction.
- Route 67 (Lindbergh Blvd): In North St. Louis County, motorists should be alert for lane shifts near the Route D (Page Ave) interchange. A full closure of this interchange is currently slated to begin tomorrow evening, Friday, Feb. 13.
Public Transit and Commuter Advice
Metro Transit reports that MetroLink and MetroBus are currently running on regular schedules. However, with the evening road closures, some MetroBus routes in the downtown and Wentzville areas may experience minor delays due to diverted traffic. Commuters are encouraged to utilize the Transit app for real-time tracking of bus locations.
