City Notices: Infrastructure Committee Updates and Winter Health Advisory

Board of Aldermen Committee Meetings
The City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen has confirmed several committee sessions as part of the 2025-2026 legislative session. On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the Public Infrastructure and Utilities Committee is scheduled to convene at 3:30 p.m. This meeting serves as a primary forum for discussing the city’s ongoing maintenance projects and utility oversight. Residents interested in legislative developments are encouraged to follow committee proceedings as the board moves toward its full meeting later this week.
Department of Health: Urgent Influenza Advisory
St. Louis health officials have issued a formal advisory following a significant surge in influenza activity throughout the metropolitan area. Recent data indicates a sharp increase in influenza-like illness (ILI) visits to local emergency departments, marking the highest levels recorded for the current season. The Influenza A strain has been identified as the predominant cause, accounting for approximately 97% of reported cases.
The Department of Health notes that adults aged 25 to 49 have been particularly impacted during this surge. Health officials are urging all residents, especially those in high-risk categories—including individuals over 65, pregnant women, and those with chronic medical conditions—to take immediate preventive action. Key recommendations include:
- Receiving an annual flu vaccination if not already administered.
- Practicing frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Staying home from work or school when experiencing symptoms to prevent community spread.
Public Safety and Building Division Updates
The Department of Public Safety has issued updates regarding administrative hearings and board meetings. While the Board of Adjustment meeting originally slated for Wednesday, January 21, will not be held, several other official proceedings are confirmed for the remainder of the week. On Thursday, January 22, the Building Division will conduct a Conditional Use Hearing via Zoom starting at 8:30 a.m. to review zoning and property applications.
Additionally, the Building Energy Improvement Board is scheduled to meet on January 22 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Technical Subcommittee meeting at 3:00 p.m. Public safety personnel and labor representatives will also gather for a Labor Management Committee meeting at Police Headquarters on Olive Street tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
Vaccination Access
Immunization services remain available at municipal health centers on a walk-in basis during standard weekday hours. Most local pharmacies and primary care providers continue to offer flu shots, which are often covered by major insurance providers or available at reduced costs for those without coverage.
