Canyon Cafe at Plaza Frontenac will close January 25, reducing limited in-mall dining options

Closure set for Jan. 25 after nearly two decades at the upscale Frontenac mall
A longtime restaurant inside Plaza Frontenac in Frontenac will close later this month, marking another change in the mall’s on-site food offerings. Canyon Cafe, an Arizona-based chain known for Southwestern-inspired fare, has announced it will stop service on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026.
The decision follows internal notification to staff over the weekend preceding the announcement. A brief notice posted by the restaurant confirmed the final date.
What the closure means inside Plaza Frontenac
Canyon Cafe has operated at Plaza Frontenac for nearly 20 years. Once it closes, the number of restaurants located inside the mall itself will shrink further, leaving The Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus as the remaining in-mall dining option.
Dining choices around the property will still include several restaurants located on out parcels adjacent to the shopping center rather than within its interior. Those include BRIO Italian Grille, Flower Child, BrickTops, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar.
- Last day of service: Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026
- Location: inside Plaza Frontenac, Frontenac, Missouri
- In-mall restaurants after closure: The Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus
Reasons for the closing remain undisclosed
The restaurant’s announcement did not include an explanation for why the location is shutting down. As of Jan. 20, no additional public details had been released by Canyon Cafe management about lease terms, operating costs, staffing, or plans for the space.
“We will be closing January 25.”
Part of a broader pattern of turnover at the Frontenac property
The closing comes amid continued tenant changes at Plaza Frontenac in recent years, including shifts in non-restaurant uses within the property. The mall has remained a regional luxury retail destination anchored by department stores, while its internal lineup has evolved through store openings, closures, and space reconfigurations.
For diners, Canyon Cafe’s departure narrows the already limited set of restaurants operating inside the enclosed mall, a factor that can influence how shoppers plan longer visits. Any future replacement for the space has not been announced.
What customers can expect next
Until Jan. 25, Canyon Cafe is expected to operate on its normal schedule. Customers with gift cards, reservations, or event inquiries may want to confirm details directly with the restaurant before the closing date. No information has been released about whether the Plaza Frontenac location’s closure will affect other Canyon Cafe operations.
